WHAT’S COOKING – AND SHOWING - AT LE QUARTIER FRANÇAIS

The dynamic all-women management team of top Franschhoek eatery Le Quartier Français has taken eating and entertainment to the next level, featuring new restaurant concepts, The Tasting Room and iCi, and a brand new 30-seater cinema, The Screening Room.

The Tasting Room

The serious business of fine dining at Le Quartier has been set apart and defined by The Tasting Room, a dinner-only restaurant open Monday to Sunday. Course after course of exquisitely presented culinary delights   showcase chef Margot Janse and her team’s award-winning talent. Guests can choose a four-course meal for R240 or a six-course meal for R300 from a constantly evolving menu. Amongst the line-up is the sugar cured springbok loin with celeriac remoulade, polenta cake and marsala sauce. For gourmands, the highlight is the eight-course menu with expert wine pairing (R400, excluding wines).

iCi

A relaxed, café-style restaurant called iCi, meaning ‘here’ in French, takes care of breakfast, lunch, casual dinners and anything in between from an Illy coffee to a strawberry daquiri . iCi flows from the street-side terrace through the new, spacious interior decorated in a chic, yet delightfully unbuttoned way to an outdoor fireplace in the garden. Available seven days a week from noon until 10pm, the menu offers Margot Janse’s unique take on modern cuisine, with many items cooked in a wood-burning oven. The food is casual and uncomplicated, and seasonal, local and organic produce is utilized wherever possible to prepare delectable dishes such as yellowfin tuna served with a warm niçoise salad and aïoli.

Over the last decade, Margot Janse has consistently won prestigious awards for her skillfully executed and artfully presented food. Accolades for Le Quartier Français include ‘Top Chef’ in WINE magazine’s Top 100 Restaurants 2004 and ‘Chef of the Year’ in EAT OUT 2004. In 2002, Margot’s legendary food hit the global stratosphere when Le Quartier Français was named one of the ‘50 Best Restaurants in the World’ by the UK’s Restaurant magazine.
