Some visitors come looking for lion and fall in love with butterflies. Some are no more impressed by buffalo than by beetles. Some can pass a morning observing a cheetah run down a kill and then, on returning to cam, they may spend all afternoon watching furry little dassies clamber around the rocks in their clown-like way.
Our guides, generally acknowledged as the elite of Africa, share a never-ending sense of wonder about the evolving and unpredictable drama of life in the lowveld. Whether pointing out treasures of ancient rock art of the San Bushmen or moving your canoe silently by shy hippos, whether tracking and finding the elusive leopard or waiting for the place where they know the rhinos will come, their knowledge is as deep as their enthusiasm. Both are gifts that they enjoy passing on to every visitor. Driving through the bush or chatting over tea or "sundowners" by the water-hole, you guide will tell you as much, or as little, as you care to learn.
The great attraction of a visit to Pamushana is the chance to see wildlife in nature. Driving through the bush in our open Toyota safari vehicles is by far the most popular activity.
Each vehicle is equipped with a spotlight. Many an uneventful drive has been made memorable by a lion sighting just when you have decided that you are "too close to the lodge to see anything."
Canoe / Sunset Cruises
A pleasant way to get a different perspective on wildlife is on a guided trip on the waters above Malilangwe Dam. Hippos, crocodiles and other animals and reptiles, as well as myriads of birds, all present themselves to quietly gliding canoes.
Hides and Blinds
There are a number of comfortable hides or blinds situated near waterholes that are frequented by animals. As they start to come in, you can hear their breath; you can look into their eyes. You have a feeling that for this moment, you are an invisible presence in the animals' world
Walking Safaris
Many guests like to rise just before daybreak and join their guide for a walk in the bush. You guide is well armed and trained for every emergency, but, still, you get the extra jolt of excitement when you know that there is no vehicle between you and the animals.
Fishing
If you are an angler, our lakes may held true trophy bass, which you can take on fly, lure, or bait.
Golf
If you would like to get a round of gold, there are three beautiful courses nearby, and we will arrange everything for you.
A Link to the Stone Age
For 20,000 years the San Bushmen and their ancestors followed wild game from the Okavango Delta to the Kalahari to the lowveld. Though their technology was primitive, their culture and their imaginations were not,. Everywhere they went they left behind a record in their art. Malilangwe is rich with these ancient works, many of them recently discovered. Without a doubt, Malilangwe holds even more paintings of the animals and the people who inhabited the veld. Somewhere in the hills they lie waiting to be reawakened by the gaze of modern humans.
