This is a quietly luxurious lodge. Pamushana was meant to fit into the surrounds, not dominate them. Though your villa may offer the most modern comforts and beautiful decor, though you dinners are prepared in a state of the art kitchen and served with the standards of great European restaurants, though the wine list is among the most well chosen in southern Africa, the six private villas and the main building of Pamushana all nestle unobtrusively beneath the trees just like homes in a small Changana village.
The lodge incorporates the environment: the sandstone boulders that are integral to the open-air bar and lounge; the undulating bottom of the main pool, which sinuously wraps around the shapes of the hill top; the roots of the rock fig trees that work their way amongst the fissures of sandstone outcroppings.
With its massive high ceilings, curvaceous, unassuming earthy walls and myriad of pillars separating the open-plan rooms, there is something almost elephantine about Pamushana. Accommodating 12 people in six luxurious villas, Pamushana is not over the top. The design reflects a genuine intent to simply be as good as possible, to make the details perfect and encourage those lucky enough to occupy the lodge to inhale deeply and relish the pageant of live under a streaky blue sun-drenched sky.
The atmosphere is at one supremely electric and intensely soothing. Giant doors swing open with minimum effort yet are absolutely soundproof. At night, you can roll up your window blinds to view the vast, wind-rippled Malilangwe Lake. By day, soak in a vista of limitless wilderness that begins just beyond the edge of your sun bed equipped balcony. Dive into the crystal-clear plunge pool, idly follow the progress of passing wildebeest herds by telescope, or watch the elegant giraffe from your "nest" of five star comfort.
